Welcome to the Mistletoe Pages
This site, based in the UK, aims to provides helpful information on many aspects of mistletoe includng biology, conservation, control, traditions, harvesting, medicinal usage and traditions in art nouveau.
Most of the site is about European Mistletoe, Viscum album, the traditional species to kiss under. But there is also information on the many other mistletoe species worldwide.
Site News: 14th December 2009 update - Still updating content for 2009/10 season.
Have been very busy this season, particularly with mistletoe harvesting and supply, and have got a big backlog of enquiries - so I apologise in advance for delays in replying to emails.
Linked commercial sites at www.teme-mistletoe.co.uk and the new Mistletoe Design site are now live - for ordering fresh mistletoe or mistletoe-themed cards, posters etc online.
Now blogging is underway for the new season...

The familiar mistletoe of northern Europe (pictured at the top of the left-hand column) is a rather mysterious plant parasite, with a complex folklore, and, perhaps, serious potential in medicine.
And it is just one of many hundreds of other mistletoes worldwide. The American Christmas mistletoe, a different species to the European Mistletoe, is pictured below the European species.

The site aims to provide some background on all aspects of mistletoes - their biology, traditions, use in medicine etc. It does not claim to be a technical site - but provides links to some that are, and I'll try to answer any questions sent to me (email contact below). |
 |
The site is written from a UK viewpoint - and there is inevitably less detail when non-European species are covered!
