Mistletoe Events...
Why winter?
European Mistletoe is a winter plant, becoming much more visible when its host trees lose their leaves.
But it's not just increased visibility - all the critical parts of its life cycle take place in winter, and most traditional uses happen then too...
October
Mistletoe berries develop their distinctive pearly-white colour
November and December
Mistletoe harvesting
Mistletoe management (often linked to harvest)
Mistletoe sales (auctions)
Mistletoe Festival (Tenbury Wells)
Christmas and New Year
Kissing under the mistletoe!
Mistletoe traditionally given as gift of peace and good luck (mainland Europe)
January and February
Mistletoe management - ongoing
Mistletoe planting (often called 'grafting') - sowing ripe seeds on new hosts
Flowers open for the new season
March
Planting schemes continue
Flowers begin developing into next year's berries...
New seedlings begin to establish on hosts...
